It is Fall, 2010...my
favorite season. I have been traveling almost non-stop for dance contracts and also with
my Mom, Donna Eden for her Energy Medicine workshops. Since I last wrote we have been all
over Europe, New York, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Oregon, Esalen and Arizona. Tiernan has
been on over 33 flights since he was born. He is now turning 17 months and I am blessed to
know, love and be the mommy to the finest little man I have ever met.
I joined Facebook recently at the prodding of many friends and Belly
Dance fans. It was flattering to be gently pushed into the weird world of Internet
networking. I also started my first e-letter. If you would like to receive my e-letter
which will arrive in your "in" box 6-12 times a year, please click on the button
below.

While writing about social networking, I would like to answer a question which I have been
asked more than once recently: Why I don't allow comments on my Youtube video clips. My
answer...
It is the same reason that I left Tribe and other networking web sites.
I enjoying sharing my videos with the world and I continue to get requests to do so. But,
I don't have time, desire or energy for the negativity. That may sound trite. It is simply
true. It takes SO MUCH valuable time to read this stuff and digest it. I have read many
things about myself on the Internet including:
- "Dondi is an artistic mastermind and the most unique Belly Dancer today."
- "I don't know why Dondi is such a famous Belly Dancer, she can't even dance."
- "She looks like a fat slut."
- "Dondi is like a fat pig."
- "The Belly Dance Superstars lost its most talented member when Dondi quit."
- "Dondi is the only member on The Belly Dance Superstars without any talent."
- "Dondi's interpretation of Marilyn Monroe Belly Dancing is pure comedic
genius."
- "Dondi Belly Dancing as Marilyn Monroe? Marilyn Monroe is turning in her
grave."
- "I am embarrassed for Dondi that she is featured in Belly Dance videos...she is so
bad." (This one written by a friend who amazingly posted her real name with the
comment.)
- "I buy every Belly Dance video with Dondi in it and watch her dance over and
over...she is so good."
Well, I am done with it. I was done with the flood of comments before I
ever got out of high school. It spins my head. I especially don't want to be a part of
people who downgrade others to feel better about themselves. Therefore, I disable all the
comments...the good and the bad. In the words of one blogger who was also getting fed up
with someone talking trash, "These people use an anonymous moniker, post on an
anonymous message board, and try to gratify their anonymous dignity. Of which they have
none." And another blogger, "You would think, with all the talk about bullying
lately that people would not write such unnecessary and hurtful comments about actual
human beings. Calling someone an "ugly slut" and "utter tramp" is
BULLYING. These people should consider themselves just as 'wrong' as the two students
involved in the Rutgers suicide."
I am using the words of these two bloggers because I couldn't have said
it better myself. I am all about constructive criticism but it is difficult to come by
that on the Internet these days. Plus, I figure the people who really do have a respectful
critique for me will seek me out and write me a personal email. For those who simply like
to watch and enjoy my little clips on Youtube or anywhere else, I thank you.
Until next time...
Dondi Simone Dahlin (and Tiernan Ray)
